THE APPEAL
Solid, reliable and likely to survive a nuclear apocalypse, meet the Mercedes Benz C123 the Coupé variant of the hugely popular W123. This dependable and stylish version is Mercedes at their absolute best. It wasn't all about power (125bph) or best performance, these cars were built to last, and last they will.
These automotive stalwarts were sold worldwide in their millions, with the first saloons being so desirable they were purchased for more than list price, and although over 2.6 million W123s were made, only 8,007 were turbodiesel coupés destined primarily for the US market. They are a very rare sight on European roads.

Originally registered in the United States this 300CD Turbodiesel was imported into the UK in July 2021 and has been used sparingly. It comes with good history and is in fine running order, ready to keep on motoring.
THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK
- Good service records
- Imported into the UK 2021
- Original USA registered
Only three owners have had the pleasure of owning this Turbo Diesel Coupé with the latest purchasing it from the estate of a late family member. Several service stamps are present in the manufacturer supplied book and there's plenty of additional invoices and documentation for other maintenance mostly carried out in New Jersey, USA. Valid V5c is also present, alongside the original manufacturer's manual and book pack. The automatic climate control has been converted to the modern R134a.

THE INTERIOR
- Palomino interior
- Tiniest of wear
- All original fittings
Inside this indestructible diesel, its pleasant, clean, organised, essentially business as usual from the masters of understated interiors. It won’t win any awards for design innovation but it's clean, well-kept, and free from any heavy wear.
There’s the smallest indication of wear on the driver's seat but not very noticeable and won't cause any hindrance to your comfort, which is what these cars are all about, a comfortable, pleasant environment for the individual who prefers the simple but restful interior over the sporty and impractical. The carpet and floor are still in great order and the sunroof operates smoothly without a hitch.

THE EXTERIOR
- Deep scratch to boot
- Pillarless design
- Lapis Blue Metallic Paint
- Small signs of wear
While these cars are not the most dramatic of designs, they do still carry a certain allure. Without question the best element on the car is the pillarless frame, with both front and rear windows down, the upper side of the car is exposed, a very attractive addition to an otherwise straight forward design.
The car in general is in fair condition, there’s some signs of wear such as stone chips and scratches with the worst being on the boot and rear right section, which have been photographed. Otherwise, the paint is good, a nice metallic blue which pairs nicely with the brown interior.

THE MECHANICS
- Reliable straight 5 Diesel
- MOT until November 2022
During our visit the car was manoeuvred into position for the photos without fuss, it started easily and ticked over effortlessly. These engines are renowned for their reliability, with many reaching over 500,000 miles, so by those statistics this motor not yet touching 80,000 it has many more miles to cover yet! The car did have some work carried out in the States in January 2021 to the sum of just over $6,000, this included:
- Complete new exhaust system
- Thermostat & Gasket
- Fuel return lines
- Drive shaft flex disc
- Both lower ball joint
- Engine mounts
SUMMARY
Arguably the most reliable Mercedes, if not most reliable car ever made, this Coupé variant of the renowned W123 comes with good history and an almost immaculate interior, a superb Merc from a superb era.
