The Appeal

The pinnacle of Mercedes-Benz build quality? This is it. The W123 is often cited as one of the most durable and reliable cars ever made. Its simple, boxy aesthetics are a masterclass in elegant design, while the mechanicals are so legendarily sturdy, that W123s are known to surpass a million miles.
Such is their usefulness, the W123 is a victim of its own success. You’ll struggle to find one that hasn’t been to the moon and back and bashed around in the process. That makes this refreshingly basic 1984 200 T estate very appealing. The odometer shows just 87,294 miles - which is likely accurate when you see what superb overall condition this car is in. There’s very little in the way of wear, no obvious corrosion in any of the usual trouble spots and it’s said to drive beautifully thanks to regular servicing.
For Mercedes-Benz collectors, this is 200 T is surely worthy of your consideration.

  • Just four previous registered keepers

  • MOT until 25th June 2025
  • Acquired by the vendor in 2018 and driven regularly while they worked as an interior designer

  • Garaged throughout present ownership

The Condition

  • Burgundy paint over cream cloth and Zebrano woodwork
  • Exceedingly original inside and out
  • Straight bodywork with well-fitting doors, bonnet and tailgate
  • The paint and trim present very well for their age with minimal imperfections as the photographs show
  • OEM steel wheels with colour-matched hubcaps retained
  • The underside appears in good shape with no obvious cause for concern in the photographs
  • Remarkably little in the way of wear to the seat upholstery and controls - supporting the low indicated mileage
  • We understand the instruments and switchgear to be in good working order
  • We note one of the dashboard trims is coming away at the edge ever so slightly
  • The carpets, door cards and headlining appear in impeccable order
  • Slight marks to the right-hand side of the boot carpet but this is only superficial
  • Period Decker Europa radio cassette - a desirable accessory

The Mechanics

  • 2.0-litre (1,997cc) four-cylinder NA petrol engine
  • Five-speed manual gearbox
  • Only MOT advisories are for slightly cracking tyres which otherwise show good levels of tread
  • All looks very original under the bonnet with some scope to improve its appearance
  • Recent work besides the annual service includes an exhaust system overhaul, several gaskets replaced, brake pads, changed along with callipers, propshaft joints and bearings
  • The vendor comments that the Mercedes drives very well and “breezes” down the motorway
  • We’re informed that the engine has always started without fail and the W123 has lived up to its reputation for reliability
