Highlights

  • 1972 AKS 400 updated mechanically with underpinnings from a 1984 2CV
  • Presented in fantastic overall condition, with beautiful paint and a stylish interior
  • No advisories from the last two consecutive MOT tests
  • Repainted in 2023 to a very good standard

The Appeal

The Citroën 2CV is a totemic symbol of France, its rugged simplicity symbolising the French peoples’ recovery from years of occupation. Such was its success following the Second World War, it would remain in production until 1990, changed very little during its lifespan.
For those wanting to carry more than one basket of eggs across a ploughed field without breaking them, Citroën would also offer a commercial variant. It became popular with small business, providing affordable, compact transportation for their wares and perfectly suited to Europe’s narrow medieval streets.
We’re pleased to offer one such example which began life in 1972. Reportedly supplied to Spain, this AKS 400 later underwent substantial mechanical upgrades, utilising the underpinnings from a 1984 2CV.

Following some time spent in Gibraltar, the van was imported to mainland Britain in 2007. It has been used to advertise several businesses in its lifetime and still wears the livery of a well-known Parisien restaurant, so you may well wish to make use of it for your own company’s advertising.

The History and Paperwork

  • Reportedly supplied new to Spain in 1972, before making its way to Gibraltar
  • While in Gibraltar, it underwent the aforementioned mechanical upgrades
  • Imported to the UK in 2007 and registered as a 1984 example (which matches the date of the mechanical underpinnings)
  • Offered with a valid, advisory-free MOT which expires soon
  • Two previous UK keepers
  • Left-hand drive

The Condition

  • Repainted in 2023
  • Straight bodywork, with no obvious signs of corrosion or damage
  • Charming interior, upholstery in an attractive checked cloth
  • Judging by the MOT history, some work has been carried out to the underside in past years
  • The chassis looks really smart
  • Period Moto-Lita steering wheel currently fitted (original supplied also)
  • No notable wear to the upholstery or controls
  • Factory-correct Michelin ZX tyres fitted
  • GS Pallas wheel trims fitted
  • Well-presented load bay, free from notable wear
  • All the trim is presented nicely

The Mechanics

  • Mechanically upgraded with parts sourced from a 1984 2CV
  • 602 cc horizontally opposed, air-cooled twin
  • Four-speed manual gearbox
  • All looks to be in fine order under the bonnet
  • Reportedly running very well indeed, with no issues to report
