1983 Volkswagen Golf MK1 GTI

 Highlights

  • Full nut and bolt restoration completed in 2021
  • Engine and gearbox taken from another Golf GTI with 120,000 miles, both rebuilt
  • Stainless steel exhaust

The Appeal

No bones about it - the Golf changed the world. This iconic, perky and sharp-handling hot-hatch was the car of choice - and still is - for generation upon generation of petrolhead, aided by its impressive versatility and attractive, quintessentially retro lines. It's a car that near-perfected the formula.

This 1983 example is a stunning one, that's recently completed an enormous restoration process - everything has been stripped and reassembled, including the installation of a low-mileage engine and gearbox. Those 80s lines are alive and well, and the vehicle benefits from new tinted glass across the board - perfectly matched to its period-accurate Lhasa Green livery with red contrast detailing.
Now, this handsome, beautifully finished car is ready and waiting to charm the lucky new owner - and no doubt prove just what a short-chassis Volkswagen four-pot is good for.
