1983 Porsche 928S

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Very honest example
  • Service history stamped up to 100k
  • Super retro interior
  • Two long-term owners to 2016
  • Low mileage for its year

THE APPEAL

The 928 was the first sports car to win the European Car of the Year Award, taking the accolade in 1978. It was also a massively important car for Porsche – a new large GT that would move the brand upmarket and away from the more hardcore air-cooled performance models for which it had become famous, powered by a fruity 4.7-litre V8 water-cooled engine and hugely over-engineered, with delightful rotating pop-up headlamps and practical 2+2 coupé bodywork.
Uniquely styled, it was delightfully quirky as well as marvellously well screwed together. It’s a car that has an increasingly ardent following in classic and collector circles, thanks to its wonderfully unique styling and its oh-so-Eighties interior, not to mention its fine handling and effortless performance.
This one had just two owners until 2016, when it was returned to the road after a long lay-up. The second owner had kept it since 1993, and the first for a decade having bought it new form Monarch Porsche in Warwick.
It’s now tax and MOT exempt and ready to enjoy, as a wonderful example of a pre-facelift 928S.

SUMMARY

The 928 is a car that is rapidly gaining popularity and desirability among the collector community and this one is a really smart and mostly original example that’s well worthy of a good long-term home.
It’s a car with bags of appeal, and the interior colour scheme is wonderful and sits in lovely contrast with the White Gold exterior. A really tidy and extremely original example of the Porsche GT that’s widely tipped to be one of the next big things in the classic car world, a good 928S is something well worthy of attention. And this is a good 928S.
