The Appeal
Hailing from a time when the letters and numbers on your boot lid really mattered, the Granada 2.8 Ghia X Executive was Ford’s ultimate saloon. Dubbed ‘The Essex Mercedes’ by some, the Ghia X Executive was the last of the MkII Granadas and was among the most highly equipped cars on sale in the UK at the time.
It came fully loaded with just about every optional extra Ford could come up with including Connoly leather, electric seats/sunroof/windows/boot release, air conditioning, seat heating and an onboard trip computer. Performance was brisk thanks to its fuel-injected 2.8-litre V6 and it had Ford’s ‘Handling Package’ to match, with improved suspension and lightweight alloys.
This 1983 example has spent its life in Wales with just five registered keepers and 89,905 miles on the clock. While it would benefit from some cosmetic improvements, we’re assured that the car's underpinnings are very sound, as evidenced by the recent advisory-free MOT pass. You’ll see in the photos that this is a very original example and the vendor understands that it may never have been welded.
Soon to be road tax and MOT exempt, now’s a great time to buy this rare, range-topping Granada.
Its undeniable X-appeal is surely impossible to resist…
