1983 Audi Ur-Quattro

The Appeal

Before Quattro, all-wheel drive was a technology used almost exclusively in trucks, tractors and off-road vehicles. But that all changed when, following a change in FIA rules, Audi recognised the potential to develop an all-wheel drive system for its rally cars.
From the outset, the Quattro was a world champion and although Lancia fought back valiantly with the 037 in 1983, never again would a rear-wheel drive car win the Championship. Naturally, Audi also had to build road-going versions to homologate rally cars, and this is just one of those ultra-attractive Ur-Quattros, dating from 1983.
Renewed interest in Group B rallying has made the Quattro and its contemporaries more popular than ever recently, and these are exactly the kind of cars collectors are looking for. With only three registered owners and just 102,416 kilometres on the clock, this Audi is an excellent buy.
Its previous owner carried out a body restoration and had it repainted, which makes it very attractive. The car is also remarkably original and well preserved. The vendor informs us that it has always been regularly maintained, with invoices to back this up, and we are also informed that it drives beautifully.
