The Appeal
If you’re going to build a replica, best to start with one of the most beautiful cars in the world. That is what Autotune did when it created the Aristocat, a finely detailed evocation of Jaguar’s illustrious original XK sports cars.
Autotune’s work was so faithful to the original that Aristocat is licenced by Jaguar and recognised by the Jaguar Enthusiasts Club. Each one is based on dependable - and appropriate - XJ saloon running gear with a slightly wider cabin for comfort and to accommodate taller drivers.
Aristocrat buyers, therefore, get a dimensionally accurate replica that even the eagle-eyed would be hard pressed to differentiate from an original. Unlike the original, the bodywork is fibreglass so resists the ravages of time rather better.
This pretty Old English White Aristocat was built in 1996 using the running gear of a 1983 Series III XJ6. The brakes, suspension and running gear were rebuilt during the process. Subsequently in 2009 the engine, gearbox and fuel system were fully rebuilt. The car has covered very few miles since then.
Presented in very good condition and now eligible for registration as a Historic Vehicle - so ULEZ, tax and MOT exempt - this is a very smart example of a well regarded homage to one of motoring’s most revered cars.
