The Appeal
Porsche had big expectations for the 928 - indeed, it's often said they were considering it as a replacement for the 911, which is about as monumental as you can get. Rather than being an air-cooled flat-six in the rear, this glorious upending boasted a big front-engined V8 powerplant that had long-distance cruising in mind. A true Grand Tourer with the best of them, that felt mightily exotic to the often more conservative and traditional formulas that Stuttgart had championed for so long.
While the 911 lived on unabated - much to the undoubted relief of many - it can't be denied that the 928 is endlessly appealing for just how much it was willing to tip the apple cart. It was fast, too - and has continued setting Porsche closed-course records as late as 2020. It's little wonder they're in increasingly high demand as new generations of enthusiasts discover its 18-year production run of uncharacteristically brash high-octane touring.
Unused in recent years, and in need of a little cosmetic work, this Spanish-market 928 is ready and waiting to be taken under the wing of a new enthusiast, who will no doubt find it a very rewarding classic.
