The Appeal

Throughout the 70s and 80s Ford was undisputed master of the showroom sizzle. Alongside the standard trim levels, the firm offered a bevvy of special editions designed to help models along at key points in their sales life.

Like this MkII Granada Consort. Pitched as ‘2-litre costs with 3-litre features,’ the Consort gave buyers a host of extra luxury features to nudge sales of the early MkII Grannies before the arrival of the facelifted version. Just 1,600 were built, split across the 2-litre Pinto and this car, the torquey 2.3L V6.

Today these cars are exceptionally rare. Just three other manual gearbox Consorts are believed to remain on UK roads. It is finished in factory-correct Graphite Grey with Strato Silver metallic, a theme that continues into the two-tone velour interior with its drizzle of timber features. The eagle-eyed will spot that all the original Consort features remain, such as the auxiliary lights and tilt/slide sunroof. It has been upgraded to later ‘S’ alloy wheels.

We are told that the car has been restored, but never welded. The low mileage - under 62,000 - is supported by the history file, which shows just four keepers over its 42 years.

The vendor’s father acquired the car in March 2023 but is now reluctantly letting it go due to ill health. As such this is a fabulous opportunity to acquire a Cologne-engined Granada with manual box, rare specification and interesting history. It is also usefully registered as a Historic Vehicle so MOT, tax and ULEZ exempt.

The Condition

Factory correct car with two-tone paintwork and Consort decals
Graphite Grey metallic and Strato Silver metallic paintwork in good overall condition
There are some light marks to paintwork as shown in photographs
Bodywork presents well with straight panels and no accident damage reported
Some localised areas of small bubbling and points to note in photographs
These include edges of sills and base of doors but appears not to have spread
Vendor advises that the underside is solid with no welding required
Underside presents well in photographs include floors and boot base
We are told that the car has been fully restored during its life
Retains its Consort features plus rear spoiler and white alloys from later ‘S’ model
