1982 Citroën 2CV

Highlights

  • Fully restored
  • Highly unusual Harlequin colour scheme
  • Fully galvanised chassis

The Appeal

First introduced in 1948. The deux chevaux(-vapeur) - or ‘two steam horsepower’ - is one of the most iconic classics in history. Otherwise known by such quirky nicknames as the ‘tin snail’, there were over 9 million of the 2CV built, all in the same generation - with only minor updates and upgrades along the way. Frill-free, chattering motoring with a remarkably clever long-travel suspension - it was a winning formula.
This example has had its chassis galvanised and has been restored by the current owner. It carries a very unique Harlequin colour scheme that’s sure to make it the perfect motor for the self-pronounced eccentric.

The History and Paperwork

  • First registered in 1982
  • Restored in 2019
  • Has been used as a daily driver since 2022
  • Indicates 68,743 miles on a five-figure odometer
  • However, these cars are often well-travelled and this one may have been ‘around the clock’
  • Valid MOT until August 2023, with no advisories
  • Complete with a selection of invoices for restoration work and the V5 document

The Interior

  • Highly original interior, restored with powder-coated seat frames
  • Lightweight bench seats have been recovered in black leather
  • 2CV design pillows should make the legendarily spartan seats a little more comfortable!
  • Quirky green leather coated steering wheel, with light wear
  • Dashboard is nicely kept with light wear and an eyecatching central binnacle
  • Dial shows some light wear but is still clear and easy to read
  • Roll-up roof fabric is nicely kept with no issues
  • Door cards - what little there are - in good condition with some wear
  • Floors look solid, protected by rubber floor mats
  • Boot is in good order, with aftermarket lining and a spare wheel

The Exterior

  • Impressive Harlequin colour scheme with mismatched panels
  • Light wear and some blistering in panel gutters and joints
  • Soft scratches, chips and wear to the paintwork
  • Some orange marks to the white-painted bumpers
  • Glasswork looks to be in good order with no major issues
  • What little brightwork there is is nicely kept with a light patina
  • Impressive selection of stickers in the passenger seat windows, ranging from tourist destinations to Tintin
  • Car is sitting on slightly worn, original wheels, which are shod in new-looking tyres
  • The car’s chassis has been galvanised and is reportedly in good order

The Mechanics

  • Powered by the later 602cc H2 29hp engine
  • 4-speed manual transmission
  • Engine bay looks to be in good order with only light wear
  • The vendor reports no mechanical issues with the car
  • The car has been used as a daily driver for some eight months

Summary

Colourful, characterful and easy to care for, this is far from your ordinary 2CV - and should make for a much-loved fixture of any future owner’s garage.
