The Attractions

To understand the socio-cultural importance of the 2CV, it must be borne in mind that it was specifically designed to meet the needs of the French rural population, conceived more as an alternative to horse-drawn carts than as a rival to other cars. The appeal of the 2CV derives as much from its simplicity as from the ingenuity of its mechanical solutions, such as the pioneering use of front-wheel drive and wishbone suspension with friction dampers.

Over the years, Citroën kept its beloved 'tin snail' in the spotlight by producing numerous special editions. The Charleston was presented as a top-of-the-range model, featuring retro styling inspired by the 2CVs of the 1950s. This 1982 example has only had two owners since new and is still extremely original. Although it could benefit from some restoration work, the overhaul, valid until June 2025, guarantees that it is still roadworthy, so its next owner may well decide to drive it as is with only a light tune-up.
