The Appeal
To the uninitiated, it is a wonder Alpina exists. After all, BMW has made some great factory saloons, And yet, drive an Alpina and you realise why - these cars blend performance and comfort in a way a M-car never quite delivers.
In the 1980s TWR had the Alpina franchise and converted a handful of customer cars, including this one. It is a factory 528i Automatic that has received the Alpina 3.5L makeover including 240bhp straight six and, more recently, a 5spd manual gearbox. The work did not stop there, as the photos show: beautifully finished in Sapphire Blue this car also has Alpina wheels, spoilers and magnificent brown striped interior. As one of the rare TWR conversions it also sports that renowned firm’s badging too.
The car was comprehensive restored by Munich Legends four years ago, the work totalling £33,000. As you would expect from such a well regarded firm, the work is top notch and carefully replicates the original features. Inside and out you are greeted with lovely Alpina touches - the interior is a particular delight.
The car has covered few miles since that work yet the vendor has taken the time to check it over and titivate minor areas ready for sale. This includes a full professional bodywork, interior and underside with protective WaxOiling and a full BMW service with valve clearances checked and adjusted.
For enthusiasts of classic saloons, they really don’t get much better or rarer than the E28 Alpina 3.5. This has to be one of the very best available.
