The Appeal
Porsche’s 911 Targa wasn’t the only esoteric German convertible on offer during the late ‘70s and early ‘80s. A similarly unconventional arrangement was devised for the BMW E21 3 Series by Karosserie Baur, featuring a removable Targa-style centre section and independently folding rear soft-top. Under 5,000 were made, making this a rare variant of the much-loved first-generation 3 Series.
This 1982 example is rather special, as it’s the coveted 323i model and a multiple show winner. Judiciously maintained and in fantastic overall condition, it would be a fantastic addition to any collection. The vendor has stored the car in their heated garage during their ownership and has also carried out a great deal of work returning various elements to standard and ensuring the mechanicals are in rude health. Exempt from road tax and MOT testing, this BMW is ready to enjoy.
