The Appeal
Much like its British 4x4 counterpart the Land Rover, the Toyota Land Cruiser’s fundamental design remained fundamentally unchanged for many years. The revered J40 generation endured all the way from 1960 to 1984 - and it continued to be built in Brazil until 2001!
In 1981, diesel J40s gained front disc brakes and it’s one of these examples we have here. Subtly updated with more modern seats, tyres and offroad accessories including a high-lift jack and electric winch, this looks a supremely usable example that’s bound to be a lot of fun. As a right-hand drive Japanese market example, it’s ideally suited to UK roads and has the added benefit of a canvas tilt roof - perfect for the summer months when it can be transformed into a full convertible if desired.
Presented in very good overall condition and reportedly delivering trouble-free motoring throughout present ownership, it offers a compelling opportunity for those seeking a classic 4x4 we don't see so often in the UK.
