The Attractions

The incredible capabilities and legendary ruggedness of the Land Cruiser J40 make it particularly difficult for us to decide whether to describe this splendid example as a beautifully preserved classic or as a still very capable potential work vehicle.

Certainly, however, this 1981 BJ42 Hard Top looks like a specimen that is too extraordinary to be used for heavy-duty work. It is offered for sale after having been part of a collection of vintage Toyotas for several years, during which it was rarely used and only on the road.

Its remarkable condition testifies to the great care with which it has been maintained and the excellent level of thorough restoration it underwent three years ago. The work received included a complete restoration of the bodywork with removal of the windows and painting, and a complete makeover of the interior. This Toyota therefore presents itself today practically as new.

It has remained true to its original factory specifications, having retained its very reliable 3.6-litre straight-six diesel engine with 95 hp and a practical and functional interior that has been completely overhauled. It is equipped with particularly useful equipment, including power steering, original winch, sunroof, roll bar and snorkel. The clean design is highlighted by attractive chrome wheels with quality Cooper All Terrain tyres.

Numerous recent interventions also ensure that the mechanics are at the same high level as the bodywork and interior. There are very few examples of classic Land Cruisers in equally good condition.
