The Appeal
In 1979, Porsche decided to take its front-engined 924 racing. That meant developing an all-new high-performance version, so they took the 924 Turbo, raised the compression, added an intercooler, lowered the suspension and lightened the bodywork.
It was to be called the ‘Carrera GT’ - a car later heralded by none other than Evo Magazine as “the ultimate 924”.
The aforementioned enhancements gave the 924 Carrera GT 207 bhp, and it weighed in at a mere 1,180 kilograms! Suffice to say, this was a very quick car.
Group 4 homologation necessitated 400 examples needed to be built and Porsche made 406 in all - (including six prototypes). Just 75 were made in right-hand drive for the UK market and here we have one of the very first of those cars.
Highly specified from the factory with numerous desirable options including air conditioning, this 924 Carrera GT is a very special car. It’s accompanied by a history file of unrivalled breadth and depth, consisting of every MOT test certificate since 1985 and paper invoices from 1990-2023 detailing uninterrupted annual servicing.
This Porsche was in single ownership for forty years prior to the present registered keeper and remains one of the most original examples of this rare model you’re ever likely to see.
For fans of ‘80s homologation specials, this is surely an unmissable opportunity.

- Well-presented and original-looking engine compartment
This Porsche has been serviced each and every year since 1985, regardless of mileage. That’s ensured it remains in rude health and the vendor comments that it drives very well indeed with no apparent issues to report.
Once the boost fully kicks in at around 4,000 rpm, these cars are devilishly quick and are renowned for their spry handling thanks to the lowered, stiffened suspension and the lean diet Porsche forced upon the body shell.
All present immensely well inside the engine bay of this car and looks to be highly original. We can heartily recommend this example for those seeking an authentic period homologation special experience.
