The Appeal
The British Military had been using Land Rovers since 1949, but the trouble was the Series IIA model was too big to be carried by the Westland Wessex helicopter. They had been using the Austin Champ, but it was getting rather old. So Land Rover was tasked with building a more compact ‘Lightweight’ vehicle, better suited to active service. It had to be simple to service in the field, while retaining the rugged mechanicals and superb off-road capabilities the firm had become renowned for the world over.
The air-portable Lightweight appeared in 1968 and remained in production until 1984. Here we have one of the later examples, a Series III diesel supplied new by D.O.M.I Denmark to the Danish Military. It remains impressively original and very well preserved - even down to its camouflage paint scheme and various military-spec appointments.
Reportedly running and driving very well, this Lightweight is ready for a new owner.
