The Appeal
The saying goes, you can't beat an old Honda motorcycle. An unrivalled level of quality blended with performance was a mix you just couldn't get from anything else on two wheels at the time. Hondas of the 1980s were truly something special and one of the most revered of the era was the CB125, ranked by many to be one of the greatest 125 bikes ever made, the learner legal CB125 was sleek, practical and impressively capable when it came to the performance side of things. Today it stands as a rare, beloved presentation of a golden era in Honda motorcycling.
The 1981 CB125T we have here is something truly special and perhaps one of the most interesting CB125s out there today. Amazingly, it has amassed just over 1200 miles in its 42 year lifespan, and stands today in charming, highly original order.
Enough to widen the eyes of even the most astute Honda enthusiast DGP 149X lends itself well to preservation in its current state as a collectors piece of 1980s nostalgia or to be a good usable and practical classic 125 for a new loving owner.
The History and Paperwork
- First registered 25/11/1981
- Three owners from new, the first being the original supplying Honda dealer who used it as a demo as we understand
- The second owner purchased the vehicle from the Honda dealer in 1982 and subjected it to minimal use before storing it
- The final owner purchased the bike in 1994, used it sparingly for around two years and the ill health meant the bike sat up until present day
- Accompanied by an original Honda CB125T owners manual and workshop manual; both highly collectible pieces in their own right
- No MOT records held on the bike, having not been on the road long enough to qualify for needing one
- V5 registration document present with the bike
The Condition
- Presenting in good, honest, highly original order
- Exhibits with a charming level of patina to it
- Finished in a great blue colour scheme with contrasting black and grey Honda graphics
- Paint is in wholly presentable order with just light marking focused around the tank area, likely where a rider has had something in their pockets
- Gauges and switchgear are in fine fettle throughout

- Chromework is of a good quality, with some light pitting and patina in places
- Rear factory chrome luggage rack
- Removable period storage box installed on the rear
- Lighting is in great clean order
- 1996 tax disc still present
- Chrome handlebars

The Mechanics

- Reported 14 horsepower from the factory
- Air cooled
- Front disc brake and drum rear
- Twin chrome exhaust pipes
- Five speed manual transmission
- In good honest overall mechanical order
- Vendor informs us that a new carb kit has been installed on the bike
- The bike fires into life well but has not been driven any considerable distance in some time so may want a general refresh before any riding takes place
Summary
There's a level of charm to this bike that simply can't be replicated. It acquired an incredible story and wonderful patina over the last 42 years and now stands as an excellent, interesting piece of Honda motorcycle history.
With just over 1200 miles on the clock, it would be a fair assumption to say this is one of, if not, the lowest mileage CB125T out there today, and would undoubtedly make a great collectors piece to be preserved exactly as is, but does lend itself well to a light restoration to be made concours if a devoted Honda enthusiast wishes to take the bike in that direction.
