The Appeal
Overshadowed by its successors, the CB1100RB is a bike that commands respect beyond what it received. Ron Haslam won seven of the eight rounds of British Superbike in 1981 on one of these, and they quickly garnered a reputation for grace and pace in equal measure. These bikes are a rare link to the traditional era of the racing bike - a bike that was much more dependent on its handling than the grunt of the engine.
Unfortunately, that was perhaps their downfall. The RC30 diverted buyers’ and collectors’ attention from the short-lived lineage of these homologation specials, and the CB1100RB was simply too easy to race. That meant that anybody who snagged a cheap one would hammer it quite literally into the ground with little care for their collectability or mechanics. The result is that this 1050-strong class of motorcycle is amongst the scarcest of Honda's repertoire.
This handsome 1981 example was recently imported from Holland. and has only passed through two previous keepers. Subject to a previous restoration, it's still in fine shape and has been very well maintained by the vendor - resulting in a superb prospect for any would-be buyers.
