1981 Alfa Romeo Alfasud 1300 Sprint Veloce

***Vendor supplied images***

Highlights

  • Very well presented Sprint
  • Highly original condition with superb interior
  • Revised model with twin carburettor, 85bhp power
  • One of the greatest coupes of the post-war era
  • ASI Gold Plate certification

The Appeal

Brilliantly engineered by ex-Porsche engineer Rudolf Hruska and crisply styled by Giugiaro, the Alfasud had it all.
Except not quite. Production problems hit quality and delayed the introduction of the much-anticipated Sprint coupe. When it finally arrived in 1976 it transposed the saloon’s sports car pretensions into an actual sports car shape. It was handsome and, of course, handled brilliantly.  There was also space for four adults and a decent boot.
Renamed the Alfasud Sprint Veloce in 1979, the coupe was available with 1.3litre and 1.5litre versions of the punchy flat four Alfa Romeo engine. From June of that year the smaller engine car got two twin-choke carburettors that lifted power to 85bhp.
This beautifully preserved Sprint 1.3 benefits from those upgrades. In superb condition with a particularly good interior it is pleasingly factory standard. There is an ASI certificate – with gold plate attached to the car – to reinforce the sense of quality across this exquisite example.
Arguably one of Alfa Romeo’s best cars, if not one of Italy’s, this is a fantastic opportunity for any collector.

The History and Paperwork

  • VIN records show that this is a 1981 car, one of the last built on a ‘A40’ VIN
  • It was built with the standard ratio gearbox rather than the later long ratio version
  • ASI certification paperwork and gold plate on car
  • Unfortunately at the time of writing we do not have any service or maintenance records for this car
  • From June 1979 the Sprint received the more powerful 1.3litre engine
