1980 Porsche 911 SC 3.0 Targa

Highlights

  • Restored Targa with huge history file
  • Desirable 3litre SC specification
  • Older mechanical, body and trim restoration
  • Recent independent specialists check over

The Appeal

Of the often perplexing array of classic 911 models available, SC specification and 3litre flat six always stand out. For latterday enthusiasts mindful of market trends, the next item on the checklist is invariably a comprehensive restoration, preferably across exterior, interior and mechanicals.
This 1980 3litre SC ticks those boxes and more. It is also a versatile Targa. It received a body-off restoration around 20 years ago, work that included an interior retrim and engine rebuild. It has been enjoyed since, but remains in excellent condition thanks to being owned for much of that time by a senior motorsport engineer.
These models are both collectable and very usable. This one is ready for immediate enjoyment, whether you're planning a weekend drive or a trip across Europe.

  • Minimal oil consumption according to vendor
  • Dials read correct temperatures and pressure when car is warm
  • Starts on the button from cold first time, every time, and never gives cause for concern
  • A thoroughly engaging drive, responsive in all gears, with a distinctive flat six tone
  • More planted in the corners than expected from the air cooled era 911s
  • There was a full and documented engine rebuild at 135k approximately, These are essential and the engine should be good for another 60k before the next build
  • Vendor advises he would not hesitate to drive it to Europe tomorrow
  • Our C&C photographer witnessed a (very) cold start and reported an immediate firing up. He then joined the owner for a roof down 5 mile run reporting a great note from the flat six, no knocks or rattles, a very tight feel to the ride with apparently excellent roadholding
