THE APPEAL
This SLC is a fine example of Mercedes' offerings in the seventies and early eighties. The luxurious four-seater coupé was well received upon its reveal in 1971 thanks to its unconventional design, spacious interior and gutsy V8 engine. This 1980’s registered 450 features a recent beautiful bare metal restoration, an extensive history and has had an especially comfortable life in the last five years as part of an enthusiast's collection.
THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK
- Substantial mechanical portfolio
- Past MOT certificates
- Restoration invoice
The car started its life in the ownership of member of the military, who purchased the UK registered car from a London dealership before taking it to Germany where they were stationed. It stayed in the ownership of the same family up until 2006, where it then spent a decade in the county of Worcestershire.
In 2016 the car returned to London for a few years before reaching its home as part of a Mercedes collection in south Devon. The car comes with its original service record and manual plus a folder full of invoices for additional mechanical and body work mostly carried out in the cars current ownership

THE INTERIOR
- Tidy interior
- Only minor signs of wear
- Spacious layout
Inside the SLC you’re greeted with an organised and spacious layout and there’s room for four with plenty of comforts and accessories throughout such as the rear armrests and ash trays. The upholstery is in good condition, though with a few signs of discoloration on the carpets and seat fabric as well as the rear shelf. The dash is all original, in great condition and in full working order, as is the instrument panel.
THE EXTERIOR
- Almost immaculate
- Beautiful paint
- Unscathed alloy wheels
The condition of the exterior remains almost perfect following extensive work which was carried out in 2019 and it's clear that it was completed to the highest standard.
The blue metallic is gorgeous and during our visit we were fortunate enough to gaze at the car under the spring sunshine. We can honestly say we haven't seen a better SLC and it has only a minor couple of marks to the chrome trim by the rear passenger windows which are hardly noticeable. Overall, it's stunning.

THE MECHANICS
- Great service record
- Runs and drives without issue
- No compromise maintenance
During our visit the car was manoeuvred out of the heated unit without issue or fuss, no doubt thanks to the regular maintenance and comprehensive care it has had over its life. The current keeper, a Mercedes Benz collector and enthusiast, has maintained the car on a no expense spared basis and has had all work carried out by a Mercedes main dealer.
Items which have received attention include brake pads, discs and callipers, steering shaft, injection valves and the horn. In summary, it's fair to say that the car has led a very pampered life in the last five years with any recommendations from the dealer acted upon promptly.

SUMMARY
A well built seventies luxury coupe, in a gorgeous colour, powered by a V8 engine. That’s a dream recipe for most enthusiasts and, with the benefit of a recent paint job and great mechanical record, you’ve got a car that you should enjoy for many years to come.
