The Appeal
In Britain, the Ford Cortina is more than just another car - it's a motoring institution. You'd be hard-pressed to find a family that doesn't have at least one Cortina anecdote. They were the archetypal family car in their day and Cortinas still attract a strong following.
The MkIV Cortina started life as a 1980 2.3 GLS - a much-coveted model in its day both for its trim specification and, even more importantly, the 2.3-litre 'Cologne' V6 which lay under the bonnet. This one's better still though, as it now houses a 2.9-litre version of the same engine from a Ford Scorpio. As if that wasn't enough, this Ford also features a Mazda six-speed manual gearbox which greatly improves its high-speed cruising credentials. The addition of power steering and Gaz adjustable shocks ensures a driving experience that rivals modern cars, while the braided brake lines add a further element of safety.
Mechanicals aside, this Cortina boasts a well-maintained interior and smart bodywork. Having been dry stored for years, it presents as one of the finest surviving examples. The custom-made 2.9 badge on the rear adds a unique touch, subtly hinting at the very in-keeping performance upgrades.

✓ We also check whether vehicles are recorded as being written off as part of an insurance total loss claim at the time an advert is placed and we helpfully provide write-off category labels (Cat C/D/S/N) for your assistance, the presence or absence of a label does not guarantee the vehicle’s status and it's always worthwhile carrying out your own full vehicle history check before making an offer.
