The Appeal
It’s a very interesting concept for a motorcycle the Bobber, as it involves stripping a bike down to its frame and then putting back as little as possible to improve power to weight ratio significantly, ideally changing its whole stance too to give it a real street-racer look and then add as many performance upgrades and custom parts as you wish, resulting in a very unique and almost bespoke uber-cool motorcycle.
The History and Paperwork
• First registered in 1980
• Custom built over the last 2 years
• Totally stripped down and re-built
• Many custom parts
• Re-built engine
• One key
Over the last two years the donor R80 was stripped right down and its frame, crash bars, wheels have been sandblasted then powder coated, the engine was stripped and re-built with piston rings, push rod, push rod tubes installed, it’s got new forks and custom fork yoke, twin Brembo brakes up front, revised rear suspension and that all important custom-made Bobber single seat.
The donor engine had done around 90,000 but the new clock was re-set to show around 400 miles, but it actually covered a lot less than that since its completion.
The bike is still effectively very new with only a few test miles put on it since its rebirth earlier this year and it’s mechanically and aesthetically beautifully put together.
The Condition
• Excellent condition
• Very stylish and unique ride
• All new custom parts
It’s a stunning looking machine that’s been built with a real eye for detail and quality and this is evident wherever you look on the bike.
The powder coated wheels, frame and crash bars all look great and the re-sprayed tank, new black leather seat, and all the custom parts complete a very pretty picture and very nicely put-together and presented Bobber.
All the other components that are on the bile are all recently brand new and include Fehling clip-on handlebars, Highsider headlight, Kaso speedo, custom indicators and rear lights, bespoke alloy front and rear mudguards that sit on bespoke brackets.
The engine casings have all been nicely polished up and the chrome short twin exhausts with wrapping complete the mean and purposeful look.
The Mechanics
• Engine and carburettors completely re-built
• New wiring and electrics
• New suspension and brakes
• Fully serviced and still running-in
• Runs and rides superbly
Effectively we’re looking at a completely re-built bike from the ground up that has a huge specification and numerous upgrades.
At the front it has R100 complete forks with an adjustable alloy top yoke plate and twin Brembo discs. The handle-bars, speedometer, grips lights and bar-end mirrors are all custom items, mostly from Motogadget and they all look the part and do their job well.
With the engine and carburettors re-built and tuned to perfection with K&N air-filters, and the modified suspension and braking set-up the bike sounds amazing and runs like a dream.
It’s had new wheel and steering bearings, new lithium battery, generator and rectifier, and it wears new Michelin Anakee rubber.
Everything is very new and the engine still needs to complete its running-in period and have its first service and no doubt the bike may need some tweaks and adjustment to suit its new owner, but otherwise it’s ready to hit the streets.
Summary
If you’re looking for a motorcycle with a bit of attitude, great looks and performance that’s effectively all new and unique, your search is over.
