Highlights
- Suffix ‘F’ build
- Desirable three-door body
- 3.5-litre V8 engine in good running order
- Highly original interior
Appeal
As today's Range Rovers are first and foremost luxury vehicles, we perhaps forget that early examples were actually rather more utilitarian. Conceived as a more tarmac-friendly version of the Series Land Rover, rather than the gentleman's club on wheels they later became, early Range Rovers were ideally suited to the rigours of country life and are now highly prized amongst collectors.
Here we have a very original and well presented three-door Suffix 'F' example that is eminently usable. We enjoy how it appears almost entirely unmodified, which will no doubt win favour with enthusiasts. Sitting upon its period correct Rostyle wheels and with a pleasingly basic interior, this example is amongst our favourite Range Rovers of this vintage that we've seen.

History & Paperwork
- Original owner’s manual & Leyland 'Passport To Service' material
- A collection of old MOTs are present
- Exempt from road tax and MOT testing
- A number of invoices present for work carried out during current ownership
- Some notes on some small electrical modifications included
- 55,830 miles indicated on the odometer which we are unable to substantiate
- MOT tests in recent years have suggested a much lower mileage, (well under 10,000, which may mean a different odometer was fitted or the tester was consistently reading the trip meter erroneously)
- Local trips out into the Peak District or to shows with a picnic in the boot is is apparently all it’s seen over the last few years under current ownership
Interior
- Very presentable interior
- Seats and carpets in excellent condition
- Seemingly restored at some point in its life
The interior presents extremely well and may have been restored at sometime in the past.
The seats front and rear are extremely smart, as too are the door cards with just the gentlest of patina on display. The trims in the rear do exhibit some cracking, but these do not detract at all from the overall condition.
The dashboard is especially tidy, with no obvious signs of UV damage or later modifications. The instrumentation presents well and we understand everything functions correctly.

The roof lining might just need a little attention as it's beginning to sag just a little towards the rear. All the carpeting and rubber mats appear in good order with some light wear as you'd expect to see.
The front quarter windows on each side are perhaps in need of attention. We're told that both open as required but the rubbers have deteriorated and have black silicone preventing water ingress at present.
Exterior
- Sahara Dust paintwork
- We're informed that the car was repainted at some point
- Straight bodywork and a sound chassis
With paintwork finished in Land Rover's Sahara Dust, this Range Rover has in the past, been the subject of a complete exterior respray and looks absolutely superb.
The trim is all there and in good condition, the light lenses are good with just a little cracking around the screw holes and the sills too would appear to be very sound.
There is a small dent on the roof, drivers side above the rear passenger window and a little bubbling to the paintwork on the nearside rear wing, between the wheel and door aperture.
The bodywork looks really straight and all the panels align nicely. There's no corrosion on display externally and the chassis also appears really sound from what we could see.

Mechanics
- 3.5-litre V8 engine
- Four-speed manual transmission
- We're informed that it runs and drives really well
Driven to the photoshoot by the vendor, this Range Rover started easily, sounded smooth, quiet and no smoke was visible on start up or during running.
It appeared to engage gears easily when being moved around with no adverse noises from the clutch steering or anything else for that matter. Under the bonnet, it looks to be in good order and the only issue we noted was a crack in the fan shrowd.

We're informed that it has been used sparingly by the current owner and his family. Any mechanical issues have apparently been addressed during routine servicing.
