  • Rare opportunity to acquire SC Targa at a very high level

The Appeal

The SC arrived in 1978 with the 3L flat six that shared its architecture with the turbocharged 930. These cars got more luxurious and comfortable and make excellent touring cars. Particularly the Targa models, with their removable sunroof panels.
We doubt you’re going to find a better example than this European specification LHD one. It is fresh from a meticulous strip down and rebuilt that covered every aspect of the car. Through running gear, engine, trim, bodywork and paintwork, nothing was left untouched, as the extensive photographs of the work prove. It has only covered 105 miles since completion.
Classically finished in original Guards Red with black leather interior, this very low mileage car - just 105,917 kms from new (65,814 miles) - is about as close to a brand new SC Targa as it is possible to get. The specification includes LSD, Bilstein Sport B6 dampers, 16in Fuchs-style alloys and the 5pd 915 gearbox.
This car would grace any collection whilst also fitting right in on high-end European classic car tours. European registration documents are included

46 years on from the day this Guards Red Targa left the factory, it now looks like a brand new car. The photographs prove that the restoration was extensive and exacted to a very high standard. It is fresh work that gives the buyer a virtually unmarked car.
The work has restored the car to factory-correct specification, right down to the design of the seats and the presence of the Blaupunkt radio cassette.

The Mechanics

  • Fully rebuilt mechanicals and running gear as shown
  • Matching numbers vehicle
  • Overhauled low mileage 2,994cc 180bhp flat six engine
  • 915 5spd manual gearbox with transaxle layout
  • New clutch, suspension, brakes and other fittings as shown
  • No reported running or driving issues
  • Catalyser model
The SC borrowed the basic engine from the 930 - without the turbo - which enthusiasts appreciate because it is considered to be a particularly strong motor. That is good to know but should not really register for buyers of this car since the mechanicals and running gear have been so extensively rebuilt.
The photographs record the work to the suspension, brakes, engine and drivetrain. The vendor describes the work below. Many, many new parts have been used and the car arrives with the buyer with no issues to resolve.

The vendor writes:

"The matching-numbers 3.0-liter flat-six was removed along with the original 915 transaxle gearbox, which was cleaned, refinished with yellow zinc plating, and reassembled with several replaced components, including a new clutch and flywheel. The engine itself remains internally original. Since completion of the work, only 105 miles have been added. The car is now offered with restoration photos and European registration documents.

"During the refurbishment, the matching-numbers 3.0-liter engine and 915 five-speed manual transaxle were removed for inspection and detailing. While the engine itself was not rebuilt, the engine and transaxle was cleaned, refinished with yellow zinc plating, and reassembled with multiple new components, including a clutch and flywheel.

"The braking and suspension systems were gone through, fitted with Bilstein SPORT B6 dampers."
