The Appeal
The Opel Rekord was an incredibly successful large family car produced by Opel of Germany from 1953-1986.
Through eight generations and 33 years in production, they were able to churn out about 10 million units. From 1977-1986 the final generation of the Rekord would be produced and received a facelift in 1982, which makes this car the earlier E1 variant.
The E1 was sold in competition to Vauxhalls Carlton but this would stop when the car had its droop snoot facelift in 1982.

The History and Paperwork
- This history and paperwork of this car is a little thin on the floor unfortunately
- What we do know is that this car left the Opel factory in 1979 and came over to the UK
- Since then, it has had a few owners here and there and it has now ended up in Ireland
- Interesting the digital MOT history for this car starts in 2017 which could signify that this car was off the road for a while and looking at the condition maybe it was being restored
- The V5 is present with the current owner so a change of ownership will be nice and swift
- There is also some service history that will come with the car too
- With a car in this condition, you will be able to spend many happy years at the helm of an interesting classic
- So, it is now your time to add to this car’s history, take it on holiday or to car shows. It will be at the heart of many happy memories for you in the years to come.
The Interior
- Amazingly retro interior
- Great seat condition
- Electric windows all round
The interior of this Opel Rekord is like a time capsule, once you open the door you are transported back to the ‘80s. With a mix of red and burgundy, it harks back to a time of big hair and brick phones.
If we start with the place where you will be spending the most of your time, the seats, we can see that they are presented well.
From the photos provided we can see that the rear bench seat is presented very well indeed, it’s a little more difficult to comment on the overall condition but looking at the rest of the interior it would be surprising if these aren’t presented in the same way.

Importantly for the extreme weather that we are currently experiencing this Rekord has a sunroof fitted. With the simple turn of a handle, a vast void opens in the roof and lets in a lot of fresh air, vital for this summer.
From the photos provided it doesn’t seem like there are any watermarks on the headliner around the sunroof.

The rest of the interior is presented well too, with the carpets looking very vivid and the two-tone dash looking like a lovely addition to the interior. It should be said that this plastic dash appears to be free from any nasty cracks.
Set into this dash is a fairly modern single din radio, with USB and aux connection it should make any journey in this car a beautiful memory.

Overall, the interior of this Rekord is presented very well for you, with this being the place that you will spend the most time interacting with it is very important that it looks this good.
The Exterior
- Interesting exterior colour
- Great wheel condition
- The trim is in great condition
What a great looking classic this Opel is, with its lovely burnt orange/copper colour it will always turn a few heads when you’re out and about on a sunny day.
There is no doubt that this car will look amazing sitting in your collection or on your driveway.

Focusing on the paint it would appear that is presented in good condition indeed providing a nice reflective finish. When this orangey colour is contrasted against the black and silver trim it looks very good.
To match the good paint condition the wheels fitted are also in very good condition, all four faces appear to be free of any nasty curb marks or any corrosion. They are also shod in 4 matching tyres, another good sign that this car has probably been owned by an enthusiast.

A few smaller exterior features that should be highlighted include the two front fog lights and the rear tow bar. The latter can be used to tow your vintage caravan to car shows across the British Isles, a big bonus if you like the sound of that.
This is truly a stunner of a vehicle, with so much curb appeal it should definitely become part of your collection for sure.
It should always get a few admiring looks wherever you go.

The Mechanics
- Very clean engine bay
- The more powerful 2.0 S variant
- Lovely classic to drive
When this Rekord left the factory in 1979 the 2.0l 4-cylinder would have produced around 100hp and it even managed a top speed well over 100 mph. All meaning the S on the boot lid actually meant something.
The car then transmits this power through the manual gearbox to the rear wheels, this means you could have some fun down a wet road for sure.

This Rekord’s mechanical condition appears to be very good. Upon opening the bonnet, you are met with an engine bay that is extremely clean indeed. The great thing with a classic car is that the engine bay is not full of plastic covers, so you can inspect the important parts easily.
The current owner has stated that there is some service history that will come with the car, and if we look at the MOT history that is available online, we can see that since 2017 it has only covered about 2,000 miles meaning it must have been used sparingly, and probably in the summer.
As it is over 40 years it doesn’t legally require an MOT, but it is also good to see them kept safe for the road.

This car is believed to be in overall good mechanical condition meaning that you will be able to hop in and drive away on the day of collection.
You should be able to create many happy memories whilst out driving this car throughout your ownership.
