1979 Lincoln Continental Collector’s Edition 6.6L

Highlights

  • Very rare Midnight Blue Collector’s Series car
  • Final year of ‘full size’ Continental MkV production
  • Dry stored in air conditioned unit for several years
  • Well preserved and very original car
  • Imported to UK in 2018 with one registered keeper

The Appeal

Lincoln knew it was the end of the era. For 1979 it marked the final year of ‘full size’ Continental production with the appropriately named Collector’s Series cars. Just 6,262 would be built.
Detroit wouldn’t make cars like this again. As long as any land-ship would ever be, the MkV was the culmination of the sort of exuberant car design that began soon after World War II. The Collector’s Series cars evolved the specification of the previous year’s Diamond Jubilee models by giving buyers every possible option as standard. This was reflected in the $8,000 premium over other MkVs.
All of which makes this car magnificent. One of just 3,900 Midnight Blue Collector’s Series cars and likely one of the last built, it is like a time-machine transporting the viewer - and lucky occupants - to a very different kind of late 70s world of flourish and excess.
It is factory standard and in very good condition. That is thanks to being carefully stored in an air conditioned unit and maintained to a high standard by the seller. It is a multiple show winner.
This is a remarkable and rare car. As Lincoln clearly knew when it was built, it is also very collectible.
