The Appeal
If you were to think of an iconic van, it’s almost certain that the T2 is the first thing that comes to mind. Whether you know it as a surf bus or a hippy wagon, they’ve become synonymous with the free-spirited lifestyle.
This example, built in 1978, is exemplary, with a period interior and a beguiling colour scheme all offering a simply top-notch, characterful bus that’s ready to hit the road with its new owner.
The History and Paperwork

- Originally painted in green - resprayed to Orange in 2023
- This is believed to be genuine, though we can’t verify this

The Condition
- Nicely presented with a good, tight panel fit
- Some light signs of wear, with the odd chip or scratch
- Sat atop colour-matched wheels
- These are shod in Avon tyres
- Light signs of wear to the sills
- Solid looking underside with no meaningful corrosion
- Very light areas of welding, as catalogued in the paperwork
- Nicely-kept driver’s cabin with brown textured upholstery
- Dashboard in good order and very original
- Kenwood music player has been installed
- We’re not aware of any electrical issues
- Original twin over head hammocks
- Rear overhead storage cupboard and a stainless steel sink
- Living area is distinctively 70s and utterly charming
- Living cabin specification includes:
- Laminate table
- Fellows fold-out hob with stainless hood
- Woodgrain storage areas
- Yellow and brown checked rock ‘n’ roller bed
- Blue and white tile pattern flooring
- Everything looks clean and well-kept with age-commensurate patina
- No signs of water ingress from the pop-top
- New window seals
- We’ve no reports of issues with the living area equipment
The Mechanics
- 1584cc B4 powerplant
- 4-speed manual transmission
- Engine bay looks in very good order
- EMPI exhaust
- We’ve not been informed of any mechanical issues
- The vendor reports that it’s driving ‘perfectly’
- Ultimately, this appears to be a solid, well-kept example of the iconic bus
