The Appeal
There's no bones about it - the Silver Shadow is the quintessential Rolls-Royce. For decades, that slab-sided, distinguished profile has been an iconic symbol of class, elegance and sheer luxury. When one approaches and inspects a Silver Shadow II, it becomes clear why they still are - it's a luxurious, palatial motor that exudes pure craftsmanship.
The Silver Shadow is very much the first choice for budding Rolls Royce enthusiasts at the moment, and post-1977 examples - the Silver Shadow IIs - are an excellent buy. Considered a revolutionary shadow, they sport greatly improved handling courtesy of a rack and pinion steering system and altered suspension and brakes over its predecessor.
The example we see here, a 1978 example, is no exception and is, from every angle, a marvellous car. Meticulously maintained to high standards, this evocatively coloured Shadow has reportedly seen just a handful of owners since new, one of whom, we're told, has bought the car back a total of four times out of pure love for the car. It is safe to say there is just something about these Shadows that sticks with an individual.
