1978 Land Rover Series 3 88

Highlights

  • Comprehensively restored
  • Fully resprayed
  • Fantastic condition throughout

The Background

The series 3 Land Rover was introduced in 1971 and shares much in common with its predecessor the Series 2 A, to the extent that it is more of a 2A facelift rather than a fully redesigned vehicle.

The Land Rover Series 2A and 3 offered an exceptionally practical vehicle that could be fully repaired in the field with limited tools. With permanent rear wheel drive and the option to engage the front to give four wheel drive, it was practical both on road and off road.
With rugged looks and performance to match the Series 3 is an Iconic vehicle that has seen worldwide success.

The History

The current owner bought the Land Rover in 2014 as a project and has since completed a full and comprehensive restoration. Now that the car has been completed he has decided to sell the car to give him the space to start on the next project.

The Paperwork

There is a small amount of paperwork prior to the current owner acquiring the vehicle, however there is a huge amount of paperwork covering the entire restoration and current ownership.

Invoices include everything from welding, through a full respray to the little details like door seals and trim.

The Interior

The series 3 has a classic utilitarian interior that reflects the practical nature of these vehicles, but rarely are they found in a condition this good.

All of the front seats are as new and show no wear, the paintwork is immaculate and the dash is fantastic. The rear bench seat is in very good condition and the entire load area, having been freshly resprayed, is immaculate.

The Exterior

As with the interior this Land Rover is in exceptional condition on the outside. Benefitting from a recent respray in the original Bronze Green it looks fantastic and looks as good today as when it rolled out of the factory.

The grille, paintwork, trim, light overs and all other external pieces are all in fantastic condition, this is a Land Rover that has wanted for nothing. As can be seen in the images even the underside is immaculate.

The Mechanics

As with both the interior and exterior the mechanical side of things is also exceptional. It starts easily, runs perfectly and sounds smooth.

There have been a few new parts professionally welded on to the chassis where required as well as (but not limited to) the following; new exhaust, new suspension, full body off strip down and rebuild, new carburettor, all new brakes and lines, all new filters, new clutch and electronic ignition. If it possibly needed doing it’s been done!

The Appeal

We all love a good Land Rover and they don’t come better than this. With the original Series vehicles becoming increasingly sought after and good examples appreciating in value this fully restored Series 3 presents a fantastic opportunity. Not just mechanically sound but also beautifully finished it makes an impression and for all the right reasons.

Finding a Land Rover is easy, finding one this good is not, bid now as ones this good won’t hang around!
