The Appeal

Arthur Francis was to Lambretta what Carlo Abarth was to Fiat: an engineering maestro with the innate skill and ambition to extract serious performance from an Italian icon.

In his later years, Francis recalled:

"Inspired by the beautifully finished castings of Japanese engines, I started tuning my own scooter engines. Reworking and polishing the porting, alterations to the carburation and exhaust were fitted in when time was available. Although the next step was already on the drawing board. Lambretta and Vespa models to be supplied as a tuned package with complementary accessories and colour schemes."

And that's exactly what he did; producing exquisitely reworked Lambrettas and his 'S Type' models went on to win scores of scooter racing and trialling events, as well as proving an immense sales success.

This 1978 GP150 pays homage to the late great Arthur Francis. It has been restored to a superlative standard and has covered a mere eleven miles since for testing purposes. Classic scooter aficionados will note the iconic Arthur Francis two-tone paint scheme and AF Rayspeed Clubman exhaust; and the Lambretta also comes equipped with an Andy Nixon Snetterton seat, and a luggage rack built by the renowned Dez Askill. No faithful Arthur Francis 'S Type' replica would be complete without suitably upgraded performance and in this case, the GP150 has been fitted with a brand new 200cc engine, 12v CDI electrics, and S83 Michelin Tyres.

Evoking a golden age of scooter tuning and competition, this supremely well-executed Arthur Francis Replica would be a superb addition to any collection. It's yet to be run in and as such is offered in beautiful condition, fresh from restoration.

The vendor says:

"Riding the Lambretta GP is a nostalgic and fun experience, blending classic scooter charm with solid performance. Its 198cc engine provides enough power for zippy acceleration and a comfortable top speed, making it ideal for city commuting and leisurely rides. The lightweight design and compact frame make it highly manoeuvrable, offering smooth handling in tight spaces and traffic.

"While the drum brakes and simple suspension system aren’t as refined as modern counterparts, they still provide a reliable and enjoyable ride on well-maintained roads. Overall, the GP 200 offers a perfect mix of vintage style, practicality, and a playful, engaging riding experience.
