The Appeal
Here’s something you probably haven’t seen in a while. In fact, we’ll wager many have never encountered a Datsun KP 710. Introduced in 1971 as a smaller version of the Datsun Bluebird 610, it was offered in a wide range of bodystyles, of which this is the desirable two-door fastback SSS model with all-round independent suspension.
The KP 710 SSS offered here underwent a comprehensive restoration over six years, completed in 2016. As the photographs show, it’s in fantastic condition throughout, but the star of the show is the ultra-rare LZ18 twin-cam under the bonnet. Rebuilt by Rowland Barrett, this is a very healthy example of Nissan’s competition engine, predominantly used for oversease European rallies in period and capable of producin up to 200bhp.
Since arriving in the UK, this Datsun resided in a private collection and it’s still yet to be road registered. Complete with NOVA declaration and original South African logbook, it’s time for a new owner to register this seldom-seen sports car and hit the road.
