The Appeal
Trust BMW to get it so right. The R100S evolved what was already a brilliant package - a lightweight, powerful touring bike that managed to be quick, nimble and comfortable. That it also looked great, as this beautiful 1978 example attests, was an added bonus.
This example has clearly been cherished by the handful of collectors who have been lucky enough to own it during its 46 years. Finished in gorgeous burnt red metallic with gold pinstriping it is in great order. The chromework shines brightly in the sunny photos.
It has been well maintained, as is large history file confirms. There is a complete run of servicing and MOTs back to the early 80s and even the tax discs for most of the last 30 years are present. The vendor acquired the R100S from a family friend in 2023 and has dry stored and regularly serviced it despite sparing us. The last service was by a model specialist immediately prior to sale.
The bike runs and drives well with everything reported to work. It is MOT and tax exempt but the vendor reports it has MOT to April. A great bike, whether you choose to use it or admire it.
