Highlights
- Older restoration in need of a refresh
- Starts and runs but could use a full service
- Some welding likely to be needed
- Perfect spring project
The Appeal
Based on the Mini Traveller, the Mini Van was much the same but without rear side windows and the wood trim that adorned the more upmarket versions. And no rear seats, obviously. Today they are an ideal way to make your business stand out from the crowd or to run as a classic Mini that’s just a bit different. With the practicality that the rear side opening doors afford, it opens itself up to a range of applications that the more traditional Mini can’t hope to service.
This example has been restored some years ago and now needs a little TLC to bring it back to its best. Cosmetically it’s in pretty good shape but it is in need of a full service and probably some welding, in other words a perfect spring project with the opportunity to put your own individual stamp on it. If that sounds like a fun way to while away the dark nights then get on over to the bid button now!
The History and Paperwork
- Heritage certificate
- 4 previous owners, the third of which is thought to have restored it
- In current ownership for one year
- Selling to finance another project
- It will come with historic registration plates from: ELPA - (Automobile and Touring Club of Greece) - member of the International Automobile Federation (FIA).
The Interior
- Very original
- Seats and load bay in good condition
- Everything functioning as it should
The Mini Van has a workmanlike quality to the cabin but given the sparsity of the usual Mini cabin then, the lack of rear seats aside, it’s all quite familiar. The black vinyl seats are in good condition and there’s a chunky sports steering wheel and Cooper branded wooden gear knob. The carpet isn’t quite as extensive as you might find in its shorter sibling but the dash is very similar, albeit with the right hand dial currently sitting at a bit of a jaunty angle.
The headlining is clean and secure and the load bay in good condition. Obviously there’s not a great deal in terms of luxury items here (none of your complicated wind down windows, thanks) but everything functions as it should and so the interior shouldn’t need a great deal of attention, unless you want to dedicate the time to some personalisation.
The Exterior
- White with red roof
- Undamaged paintwork
With paintwork and chrome that the seller describes as excellent, this van presents very well and is complimented nicely by the standard wheels.
The underside is reportedly in fair condition, showing some surface rust, and likely in need of some welding. The bodywork is currently sporting a selection of insignia but the side panels are currently a blank canvas and just waiting for your sign writer of choice.
The Mechanics
- Engine bay in fair condition
- Starts and runs
- Would benefit from a full service
It’s fair to say that under the bonnet isn’t looking quite as well kept as the bodywork and this is likely where the bulk of the effort will be needed in bringing the van back up to scratch. It does start and run and reportedly doesn’t exhibit any unusual noises on the move, just those you would expect from a classic Mini. It pulls well and stops as it should and doesn’t show any signs of leaks or smoking. Overall, it looks like a good starting point for a project.
Summary
A tasty alternative to your usual classic Mini which is ready for some attention to make it your own.
