The Appeal
It’s fair to say that Excalibur didn’t make hugely convincing replicas of vintage cars. No, their Phaetons were very much curious motors of their own. Loosely inspired by the Mercedes-Benz SSK, these V8-powered modern old-timers were built to provide classic-style lines for modern drivers.
Only 3,166 rolled off of the lines - but with takers like Arnie, Jay Leno, Dick Von Dyke and Steve McQueen, they became a bit of a Hollywood phenomenon. This example, finished in the lesser-seen two-tone vanilla and chocolate colour scheme, is a great opportunity to get behind one of these fascinating bits of American 70s madness.
