1977 Austin Mini 1000

Highlights

  • Impressive example of a quintessentially 70s Mini
  • Evocative period colour scheme
  • Impressive paperwork file

The Appeal

One of the cars that changed the world. To this day, the Mini’s characterful styling and sheer ingenuity is the blueprint for the compact car - and no doubt contributed to its sheer longevity. Leyland had every intention of ending Mini production by the 1980s, but the plucky little car just kept going - all the way up until the millennium.
This smashing example comes to us in a quintessentially 70s guise, from its distinctly period colour scheme to its endearingly simple cabin. It’s a lovely, clean example for its age and - to our eyes - is ready and waiting to be driven away.
Accompanied by a hefty file of paperwork, we’ve no doubt this charming little car will endear itself to the new owner very quickly.

The History and Paperwork

  • Built in 1977
  • The DVLA records 5 previous keepers
  • In current ownership since 2016
  • Subject to some restorative metalwork in 2017
  • We understand the paintwork to match the car’s factory finish
  • Currently indicates 42,161 miles on a five-figure odometer
  • MOT exempt and last tested in 2017
  • Paperwork file includes:
    • A selection of MOT certificates
    • Original handbook
    • Haynes manual
    • A selection of invoices, including for restorative work in 2017

The Condition

  • Attractive antique gold colour scheme sets an evocative 70s tone
  • Bodywork in general good order with some areas of repair
  • Some light signs of wear, mostly restricted to localised bubbling and chips
  • Some signs of corrosion under the bumpers and around the sills
  • Underside is generally clean with some patches of corrosion
  • However, all of this is very light for a mini of this seniority
  • Brown fabric interior is in good general order
  • No sign of any rips or tears to the seat covers
  • Some cracking and wear to the dash
  • Some wear to the carpets, particularly around the doors and footwells
  • Vinyl door cards are nicely kept

The Mechanics

  • Powered by the venerable and trusty 998cc A-Series powerplant
  • 4-speed manual transmission
  • Engine bay in fine order
  • We’ve no reports of any mechanical issues
  • From what we understand, the car is starting, shifting and breaking with no fuss
