The Appeal

Fresh from an extensive six-month restoration, this 1976 Land Rover has been built to last another fifty years - at least.

Series Land Rovers make for very usable classics but, in standard form, fall down on two key points. Firstly, their mild steel chassis succumbs to corrosion, and secondly, they're just a little too slow to keep pace with modern traffic. But this newly restored Series III overcomes both hurdles, making it among the most drivable classic Land Rovers you're ever likely to find. Thanks to a brand new galvanised chassis (and even galvanised door frames), it's practically impervious to even Britain's harshest of winters and under the bonnet, we now find a professionally remanufactured 300 Di engine - as found in early Defenders and renowned for its longevity and performance.

The original Series gearbox and axles have been rebuilt, so with only 5 miles on the new engine, this land Rover is essentially in "like-new" mechanical condition. Naturally, it also boasts new brakes, suspension, wheels, tyres,  and even a new canvas tilt.

We're most envious of this Series III's next custodian.
