The Background
The Fiat 124 Sport Coupe was originally launched in 1967 and was the last project to come from Fiat’s designer Felice Mario Boano before he retired from the company.
The first iteration of the 124 Sport Coupe featured single headlights and a lower bonnet line but this was later revised with the second generation models in 1970.
These second generation models featured a new styling care of Mr Boano’s son, Gian Paolo Boano who had followed in his father's footsteps. The front end now featured a set of dual headlights and a redesigned front fascia made room for a separate squared trim around the central grill.
In 1974 the Fiat 124 Sport Coupe entered its last phase that was only produced for one year.
This final version became highly sought after by buyers and later collectors as these late models featured the far meatier 1800cc engines, the most powerful engine offered in the range.

The History
The Fiat 124 Sport was purchased by the current owner around September 2021. The previous owner had recently had the car fully resprayed in 2019.
Following the purchase of the car the current owner has had a new cam-belt fitted as well as a new clutch cable and a full oil and filter service.
Sadly the current owner is now looking to part ways with the 124 due to a lack of storage space.

The Paperwork
The 124 Sport comes with limited paperwork. It does most notably come with the original instruction book and the original service book. Included in the paperwork is also an invoice for the full respray that was carried out on the car in 2019.
There are unfortunately no other pieces of historical paperwork. There is an invoice for the current owner's purchase of the new clutch cable but no invoices for the other work carried out on the car during the current ownership.
There is an MOT history print-off that shows the last MOT carried out in 2007 and history for other MOT’s back to 2004. The current owner is also including a rare Haynes manual with the sale of the car.

The Interior
Climbing into the Fiat the spacious cabin presents well and is in good overall condition. The dashboard vinyl is in excellent condition with no fading or cracks. The instruments and dashboard itself are also clean and tidy although the seller notes that the rev counter has stopped working.
The seller also points out that neither the original radio or the heater fan work. The black seats are all in excellent condition showing very little wear. Likewise the carpets are clean and showing very little wear.
There are some small areas of damage to the interior headlining and some imperfections found mostly around the passenger door card. The rear grab handles are also showing some imperfection to the metal.
Overall the Fiat is very nicely presented and makes for a comfortable and enjoyable place to be but some areas could do with some attention.

The Exterior
The exterior of the Fiat is in generally great condition. The paintwork is in excellent condition thanks to the recent full body respray that appears to have been carried out to a very high standard.
All the panels are straight and true with no signs of marks or damage. The brightwork on the car is in generally good condition. There are some areas of blemishes on the chrome, most are minor with a slightly worse section appearing on the front bumper towards the drivers side of the car.
The windscreen of the Fiat does have a crack running vertically downwards to the very extreme driver's side of the windscreen. The alloys are all in great condition.
The original 13-inch steel wheels, now painted white and come complete with four new tyres are available with the car alongside the chrome centre caps with both pieces being in excellent condition.

The Mechanics
The 124 Sports 1800cc engine is quick to fire with no hesitation and idles smoothly and quietly, save for a subtle, but very pleasing burble from the exhaust. The car picks up quickly and pulls well through the gears.
The 5-speed gearbox feels crisp and tight with no untoward noises or crunches. That 1800cc engine has a wonderfully throaty rasp and just sounds better and better the higher the revs go.
The Fiat handles very well and is a comfortable ride with no nasty body-roll or any untoward noises from the steering or suspension. Lifting the forward hinging bonnet reveals the heart of the Fiat Sport Coupé which looks very clean and tidy with work carried out to a high standard throughout.

The Appeal
This Fiat 124 Sport Coupé represents an excellent opportunity for buyers to get their hands on a well presented, low mileage and genuine example of these fantastic Sports Coupés. With Alfa Romeo Bertone Coupé making £25,000-40,000, this makes the Fiat Coupés excellent value for money.
With subtle but elegant styling, an excellent drive train and a top of the range 1800cc engine, this is a sport coupé made to be driven with plenty of Italian spirit and gusto.
Whilst it could benefit from some attention to bring the interior up to the exterior standard, this is still a very solid example in great condition, that’s ready to join its next collection.
