The Appeal
Sporting coupés were Alfa Romeo’s forte throughout the 1960s and ‘70s, remaining desirable classics to this day and also a popular basis for ‘restomods’. Bertone’s svelte styling and Alfa’s athletic powertrains proved excellent bedfellows, so whether in standard form, or modified by preeminent performance specialists, these compact coupés are a bonafide driver’s car.
Here we have a very presentable 1976 GT Junior 1600 which benefits from a great deal of attention over the past two decades. Its engine and gearbox were rebuilt in 2003 and a Harvey Bailey Sports handling kit was fitted in 2005. Recently subject to comprehensive recommissioning following eleven years SORN in dry storage, this is a very usable example that’s not overly pristine, making it the perfect candidate for regular use, bodywork restoration or ‘restomodification’.
