The Appeal

If you know, you know. And if you don’t let us explain. In the 60s motor dealers went racing, and when they did they tried to supercharge showroom sales of their road-going models by injecting them with some know-how and DNA from their racing cars.
As with cars, so it was with scooters. Premier amongst the dealer-derived two-wheeled tuners was Arthur Francis, who offered buyers a range of ‘S-Type’ bikes based on Innocenti’s GP range. These bikes, with their distinctive decals, were hugely popular, so much so that Arthur Francis continued to offer the upgrades even when production moved to India in the early 70s.
This is one of those ‘Vijay’ bikes, a GP125 carefully breathed upon by the Arthur Francis outfit. It is close to museum quality condition thanks to a recent extensive restoration that cost several thousand pounds. The quality of the paintwork and detailing is impressive and shines out of the photos.
The joy of an S Type is that they are so collectable, have a delectable back story and look so, so good. This lovely bike is proof of all that and surely begin conversations and garner admiring glances wherever it goes.
