The Appeal
Launched in 1970 the Triumph Stag has gone on to symbolise the perfect English classic car. Thanks to its gorgeous looks and powerful V8 under the bonnet it comes with bucket loads of curb appeal. This example has previously been restored and subsequently looked after well, it sits in good condition and is ready to get going.
If you’re looking for a proper classic to add to your collection, then look no further than this great example. With the top down on a twisty B-road, the car will come alive leaving you with a massive smile on your face.
The History and Paperwork
- There is a large history file that will accompany this car
- It has invoices dating back to 1984
- One of the previous owners has put together a history document
- This documents a lot of the work from 1997-2008
- In 2008 it goes through a restoration
- Its body has some work replacing the sills, some floors, and the wing quarters
- In 2018 the current owner acquires the car
- Since then, they have improved the car with mechanical upgrades wherever necessary
- They have carried out the following work
- Head gaskets
- Timing chains
- Carbs fully rebuilt
- Lumination ignition
- Tony Hart super gill radiator
- Block completely flushed
- Viscous fan
- Full stainless steel exhaust system with sports straight-through pipes
- New overdrive unit
- New diff with a new CWP
- New clutch and bearings
- Brake calliper's rebuilt and pipes were changed to braided hoses
- Rear brakes were cleaned with new cylinders
- New standard shocks all round
- New battery
- High torque starter fitted
- New seat diaphragms
- TR6 front spoiler
- All fuel pipes changed
- Top mounts done on one side
- New tyres recently fitted
- Kenwood DAB radio
- A Clifford alarm/immobilser has been fitted
- As you can see, a lot of work has been carried out
- This is documented within the wealth of paperwork
- It also has a substantial amount of MOT history

The Interior
- Black seats fitted
- Great condition material
- They show little wear
- No large rips, tears, or undue damage can be found on the main areas
- The rear bench seats looks like it’s never been sat in
- The black seats are matched by the black carpets
- These are in great condition throughout the car
- Lifting these carpets will reveal solid floor pans
- Its wood veneer dashboard looks incredible
- There is still a glossy finish to the veneer
- On the day of the photos, all of the Smiths dials appeared to be working
- A modern Kenwood DAB radio has been fitted
- You’ll also find a small microphone has been installed as well for hands-free calls
- With the roof up we can inspect the condition of the headliner
- It looks to be in okay condition with only a few minor marks on the fabric
- When putting the roof down we were able to inspect the area where you stow the roof
- It looked very clean indeed with no areas of bubbling
- With the roof folded away, the interior is THE place to be
- You then get to enjoy the V8 soundtrack in all its glory
- The boot has had a fitted carpet installed
- This black carpet is in great condition and can be removed easily
- With the carpet removed, you gain access to the spare wheel and fuel tank
- Overall, the interior of this Stag is in very good condition for its age
- Once you hop in and go for a drive, you’ll fall in love with it
The Exterior
- Finished in Carmine Red the exterior of this Stag is in good condition
- There are a few areas where the paint has cracked
- A few areas are present on the car where paint bubbling and corrosion are present (visible in photographs)
- The paint still polishes up nicely though, producing a lovely sheen when it's clean
- Its soft-top roof appears to be in great condition
- The fabric is free from any pulls/tears
- The rear window is also clear with no rips to the material
- All of the alloys are in great condition
- They have very recently been shod in new rubber
- The front and rear chrome bumpers are both in excellent condition
- This is also the same for the other brightwork dotted about the exterior
- The current owner has fitted a TR6 splitter under the front bumper
- It not only looks cool but is also said to help the cooling
- A useable hard top will come with the car
- It was not present at the time of the photoshoot so has not been photographed/inspected
- This is a good-looking English sports car that you should add to your collection
- With some of the paintwork sorted out, it will look even better than it already does
The Mechanics
- Under the bonnet, you’ll find a shiny 3.0L V8 engine
- On the day of the photos, this car started up perfectly and idled well for several minutes
- The current owner has spent a lot of time and money on the car's mechanical aspects
- We have already listed the large list of work completed but just to list the larger parts
- It’s had new timing chains, head gaskets, a full exhaust system, overdrive unit, and differential
- All of this work has been carried out by a local Stag specialist
- Back in the day, the cooling system was a bit of an Achilles heel of the Stag
- This car has had its original radiator replaced with a larger Tony Hart system
- It now runs at optimal temperatures on long runs
- The power from the V8 is sent through a 4-speed manual gearbox
- This gearbox has an overdrive feature, effectively giving you a cruising gear
- The overdrive unit was replaced recently
- Thanks to recent rear shocks it rides well too
- Overall, the car's mechanical condition is very good
