Highlights
- Unmodified example
- Nicely appointed interior with wooden dash
- Purchased by late owner in 1978
- Two owners from new
The Appeal
Styled by Michelotti, it’s no wonder that the Triumph Stag was an instant hit upon release in 1970. The Triumph Motor Company were really on something here - a sharply presented, decidedly Italian-looking two-door Sports Tourer that carried a big, noisy V8 in its nose. It’s certainly got one of the most dedicated followings of any classic.
This example comes to us in rare order, with a ‘time-warp’ interior and an attractive red colour scheme. It’s reportedly almost completely unmodified - and looks to be, as a result, a rare survivor. These are hot collector’s items and sure to be an impressive centrepiece to any enthusiast’s fleet.

The Exterior

- No signs of corrosion throughout the car’s body
- Some light patina to the chromework that’s strictly age-commensurate
- Headlight lenses are clean and well presented
- The car is sitting on its original steel wheels with original hubcaps, which look to be in good order
- Shod in a full set of HiFly tyres that look to be in good order
- Underneath, the car appears to sport some light surface corrosion only
- A good, solidly presented example with no major faults
The Mechanics
- Original 3.0L V8 Stag Engine
- Borg-Warner Type 35 3-speed automatic transmission
- Engine bay is in good order with some surface corrosion
- The vendor reports that the car has had its head gaskets replaced ‘some years ago’
- Never rebuilt or modified from original specification, making for a rare example
- The vendor reports that:
- The car reportedly starts and runs very well
- There’s no smoke emanating from the engine
- The automatic transmission is smooth and responsive
- There are no unusual noises from the diff
- The brakes stop the car well and in a straight line
- The car’s steering is precise and straight
- The car’s suspension is firm with no knocks or unusual noises
- Ultimately, this appears to be a rare example of an unmodified Triumph Stag
Summary
Swift, powerful and with a beautifully appointed interior, an unmodified Stag is a rare sight - and this one is a beautifully presented example that appears raring to hit the road once again.
