Released in 1974, the Vitrex Riboud was developed by the president of a French housing association. Jacques Riboud was a very committed man and had a good understanding of the challenges facing Parisian city dwellers. The 1970s were a difficult period for the city, marked by intense congestion, public transport strikes and a general lack of disposable income. (Sound familiar?)
This funny little microcar looked a lot like a three-wheeled golf cart, with an angular plastic body and a tiny 47cc Sachs engine that started by hand like a lawnmower, reaching speeds of up to 30km per hour. It could thread its way along pavements as well as between lines of traffic and narrow intersections, embodying that spirit of austere ingenuity that has inspired many microcar concepts in Europe.
This rare example is in good condition. It has light blue plastic bodywork and a compact, elegant black interior. We rarely see this model on the market - in fact, it's rare to see it at all!
