1975 MGB GT Sebring Tribute

Highlights

  • Just 198 miles since restoration
  • Extensively upgraded and professionally rebuilt
  • Comprehensive history file
  • GTS “Sebring” replica

The Appeal

Based on the legendary GTS “Sebring” race cars, this stunning recreation is a perfect homage to one of the greatest competition MGs of all time.
With its wildly flared arches, period colour scheme and peerless attention to mechanical detail, it’s as close as you’ll find to an original competition car (it’s actually based on the RMO699F race car). Painstakingly built by the current owner, who runs a restoration company, it’s a truly unique vehicle that’s been engineered to the highest standards and is now ready for a new owner to enjoy.

The Interior

  • Retrimmed interior, inc. new carpets
  • Corbeau race buckets
  • Period Sharp radio/cassette system

With an eye on keeping the vehicle usable for the road, but also paying homage to its motorsport inspiration, the cabin of this Sebring tribute has been beautifully finished and enhanced.
The front seats have been replaced with black and red one-piece Corbeau buckets, matched with fresh black carpets and a rear bench retrimmed in red vinyl. This all contrasts nicely with the cream headlining. All of the upholstery is presented in excellent condition, with no evidence of wear or damage at all. No surprise really, as the owner tells us the car has covered just 200 miles since the rebuild was completed!
Looking at the dashboard, overall it is in very good condition. Other than some minor cracking to the centre console around the stereo, all of the trim, instruments and switchgear are in very good condition. The clocks and controls are the original items so wear some light patination, which suits the vehicle well, but otherwise are clear and legible and look very fine. We’re informed by the owner that all of the cabin features function just as they should, with no issues they are aware of.
Some motorsport inspired details have been added to the interior, including a fire extinguisher mounted in the passenger footwell and some excellent checkerplate door cards.

The Exterior

  • Full ground-up rebuild
  • Superb British Racing Green paintwork
  • Period correct livery
  • Chassis reworked and rebuilt
  • Full bespoke Sebring bodykit, including front grille and wide arches
  • Bumpers deleted with flush-fitting valances
  • Le Mans style door lights

As the current owner runs a specialist restoration company, it will come as no surprise to learn that this car has been subject to a meticulous ground-up rebuild and restoration. From a complete chassis restoration to the installation of a bespoke “Sebring” bodykit, every inch of this car has been inspected and made as well as it can be. As such, there is no sign of damage or corrosion evident. The paintwork itself looks to be extremely well finished, with no signs of any issues.
Riding on period style 15” Minilite alloys, shod in new 225/60 Hankook tyres, it looks every inch the 70s race machine. The wheels fill those wide arches beautifully, giving it a sporting and aggressive stance. More period motorsport additions include the quick release bonnet pins, leather front bonnet strap, streamlined headlamp covers, and Lucas driving lights with covers.
Underneath, no corners have been cut. Following the rebuild, the entire underside has been coated in rubberised stone chip protection then over-painted in British Racing Green. As such, it should be very well protected for many years to come.

The Mechanics

  • Rebuilt and modified engine
  • 4-speed manual transmission
  • A number of spares included
  • Numerous drivetrain enhancements

In keeping with the theme of this detailed motorsport build, many improvements and modifications have been made to the drivetrain. With far too much to list here, this is just a taster of the work that has gone into this gorgeous build:
  • 4-cylinder MGB engine rebored to 1,998cc (up from 1,798cc)
  • Twin SU carburettors
  • Fully balanced internally, compression increased to 9.5 to 1
  • Stage 2 cylinder head port and polish
  • Heavy duty timing chain and crankshaft bearings
  • Lightened and balanced flywheel
  • Braided oil cover hoses
  • High follow air cleaner
  • Bespoke ignition advance/retard pipework
  • Grooved and drilled front discs with Green Stuff pads
  • Stainless steel braided brake pipes
  • Uprated front damper
  • Springs lowered by 2” front and rear
  • Full polybush kit

Unsurprisingly, given the amount of work that has been undertaken, the owner tells us that the car drives “better than new”. It has been in storage since completion, has covered just 200 miles since and the vendor tells us that it always starts first time, runs beautifully and has no issues.

Summary

Few cars have the ability to make people really stop and stare, but this gorgeous MGB GT Sebring Replica is certainly one of them. Professionally finished to an exceptionally high standard and clearly a labour of love, it’s a unique and stunning evocation of an iconic race car.
We can’t think of many better ways to experience an MGB GT than this. With numerous developments and upgrades over a standard car, this offers the kind of driving experience few people will ever experience. A brilliant blend of motorsport heritage and real-world driving ability, we think the next owner of this reborn legend is going to be very happy indeed…
