The Appeal
Flat track racing is not for the faint of heart. Hurtling around a dirt oval at well over a hundred miles an hour is a dangerous and highly skilled business. It takes a special sort of rider to do it, and it also takes a very special machine; motorcycles that can sustain flat-out running over rough terrain.
We’re delighted to offer this rare and beautifully prepared 1975 Champion Yamaha Flat Track Racer, frame number 40673. Following extensive restoration work, the Yamaha boasts an incredible specification and has won ‘Best in Show’ at a Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club event in August 2012. Better still, the bike is UK road-registered with an age-related plate.
The vendor provides the following:
“Champion frame kits were manufactured in Hayward, California between 1968 and 1976 by Doug Schwerma. A bike similar to this was raced by Kenny Roberts Senior when taking 1973 and 74 US Grand National titles. It is presented in Roberts tribute colours. To maintain authenticity, most of the parts were obtained from California. This is one of only two Champion Yamaha 750 flat trackers known to exist in the UK.”
