The Appeal
It had been half a decade since BMW had rolled out a new luxury sedan, and they weren't best pleased. The market had been dominated by the boys in Stuttgart in their absence - Mercedes-Benz had introduced the W114 and had a palpable hit on their hands.
As a result, Munich began assembling a dream team. The time-honoured M10 four-cylinder gained an extra two pots to bring it up to spec (becoming the now equally time-honoured M30), Wilhelm Hofmeister started drawing up a stylish three-box with the aid of Bertone and Michelotti, and the company got to work on a new welding plant. All of that came together in '68 with the New Six - a driver-focused luxury Sedan that felt perfectly balanced and quietly confident.
They were a huge success - but a genuinely strong example has become very rare indeed. That's why this 1975 example is expected to garner plenty of attention. Accompanied by a comprehensive appraisal report, and boasting a very attractive colour scheme, this solid, nicely-presented car is a great opportunity to take on a cherished chapter of BMW's history.
