The Appeal

No, this isn’t a BMW Z3 with a body kit. It’s a proper V12-engined grand tourer built on a bespoke chassis by renowned specialists Southern Roadcraft. Paying homage to the legendary and immensely beautiful Ferrari 365 GTS/4 ‘Daytona’ Spyder, this ‘SRV12’ is among the most high-regarded replicas around. Visually, there’s really very little to distinguish it from the real thing, and the fact there’s a 5.3-litre V12 nestled under the bonnet means there’s vast reserves of performance to match its looks.
This example has a Jaguar-derived powertrain and is registered with the DVLA as a 1974 Southern Roadcraft. That means it qualifies as a historic vehicle, exempting it from road tax and MOT and making it straight forward and affordable to run. As the photos show, it’s finished to a very high standard and is in superb overall condition, tallying with the very low indicated mileage. All these factors contribute to the SRV12 being not just a car to admire in your garage but one to actually drive and enjoy - something we’re sure a few owners of actual Daytonas wish they could do more readily…
It’s not often such good replicas are offered for sale, so be sure not to miss this golden opportunity.

  • MOT exemption declaration accompanies the car
  • Jaguar/Daimler XJ12 handbook

  • In present ownership since October 2023
  • 24,687 miles indicated - just 215 miles covered during the past year

The Condition

  • Great attention to period details such as the Compomotive five-spoke alloy wheels and the correct door handles
  • Well-fitting hood in very good condition, including the PVC rear window
  • Classically finished in red to a high standard
  • Fibreglass bodywork in very good condition
  • Minimal paintwork blemishes visible besides the odd stone chop and light scratch
  • Brightwork, trim, lights, and Ferrari badges all in good condition with light pitting to some areas
  • Black leather interior
  • Moto-Lita sports steering wheel
  • Custom made aluminium-fronted instrument cluster as found on a Daytona in period
  • Some switches are aesthetic only
  • Fuel gauge intermittent
  • Gated gear shift adds to the authentic experience and neatly conceals the automatic shifter
Capturing many of its iconic design elements, the SRV12 is a superb homage the Ferrari 365 Daytona. The attention to detail is evident, complete with correct Ferrari badging, period-style five-spoke alloys, the correct type door handles and even the door mirror is the correct type item fitted to several Italian cars at the time. The lines and curves of the car resemble the classic Italian sports car closely, leaving a lasting impression.
The car's overall exterior condition, from the paint to the wheels and the trim, indicates that it has been very well cared for. There are very few blemishes visible and certainly nothing noteworthy to report.
On the inside, the black and red leather seats offer a superb level of comfort and plenty of support for more spirited driving. There's something incredibly satisfying about the tactile feedback of the classic switches and knobs; they click and turn with a mechanical sureness that's missing from today’s touchscreen-centric interiors.

Whilst several switches are purely aesthetic to recreate the look of the Daytona, it's still very much an interface that rewards a driver's touch, adding an additional layer of connection between car and driver. With the top down and the sound of the big V12 in your ears, it doesn’t matter what the SRV12 was designed to look like, it’s a superb car in its own right.

The Mechanics

  • 5.3-litre (5,343cc) Jaguar V12 with fuel injection
  • Automatic gearbox
  • The custom Southern Roadcraft chassis presents well and we’re not informed of any known issues
  • Sounds fantastic through its Daytona-esque quad exhaust pipes
  • We’re informed that it received a new fuel pump, fuel lines, filters and brake master cylinder during previous ownership
  • Superbly presented engine compartment
  • The owner informs us that the car drives very well indeed
Anyone familiar with Jaguar’s inimitable 5.3-litre V12 knows it’s a fantastic powertrain. We dare say it’s a good deal more refined than the V12s Ferrari used at the time… Thanks to the reliability of fuel injection and the easygoing automatic gearbox, this would make an excellent long-distance grand tourer.
The car has seen minimal use in recent years, but we understand all to be in good working order.
