The Appeal
The history of bespoke estate cars built from saloon cars is a bumpy one. Of the many tries, FLM Panelcraft’s evolution of the Rover P6 into the Estoura is amongst the best and most stylish. The name was a portmanteau of ‘estate’ and ‘tourer’ and perfectly suits the Estoura’s sleek lines.
These were very expensive cars - you could buy a Jaguar XJ6 4.2 for less - and just 220 are believed to have been built. The later ones were sold via H R Owen, including this car. Only 30 of all engine types remain, which makes the arrival of this car for sale a proper treat for enthusiasts.
This car was restored some years ago to a high standard - the work is documented in invoices, photos and magazine articles - and it looks resplendent today. It is the desirable 3500 with an automatic box that suits the touring theme.
The car has been dry stored for a few years, so the vendor advises that some light recommissioning might be useful. But considering the impression given in the photos, the solid structure and the fact it starts and runs easily, that should be straightforward. Once done, the buyer has one of the best non-factory estate cars of the last 50 years.
